Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can be a meaningful tool for many phases of life and emotional difficulties, no matter the size. As social creatures, we believe that meaningful reflection in community is a helpful way for everyone to cope with their struggles. However, we understand that not every clinician is a perfect match for every client, so the first session is often treated as a chance to get to know each other, establish the scope of work, and determine if it’s a good match.
Can I pick my therapist?
Of course. Clients are often referred to or choose a particular member of our staff based on what they’re coming to therapy for, or a recommendation from a loved one or other healthcare provider. However, if you don’t have a staff person in mind, we’ll slot you in with the person we expect to be the best fit and who has sufficient availability.
Do I need a referral?
Generally, we do not require referrals. However, if our staff is at caseload capacity and we are not taking new clients, we require a referral from another healthcare provider (including mental health counselor, psychiatrist, family doctor/general practitioner, or pediatrician). Please have your provider call our office directly to submit a referral. Recommendations from family and friends do not qualify as an official medical referral.
How often would we meet?
The frequency of appointments depends entirely on the patient’s needs. Most patients meet with their therapist every other week. However, if a patient is in high distress, they may request more frequent appointments, while patients in low distress or other circumstances may request to meet less frequently.
What is the cost of an appointment?
We are committed to making mental health care affordable and accessible for everyone in our community. To accomplish this goal, we take a two pronged approach: we offer full transparency in our pricing, and we endorse all forms of financial support, including accepting all insurance and offering a sliding scale pricing policy. For inquiries about our sliding scale policy based on your income, please call our front office.
